I’m seeking a non-technical co-founder experienced in marketing and business development to join me in building a B2B SaaS platform tailored for a niche market.
This might sound unconventional, but rather than starting with a specific idea, I’m leaning toward the “First Who, Then What” approach. It’s about finding the right partner first and developing the idea together if our preferences align. I believe this approach may foster a more genuine co-founder relationship rather than feeling like a search for an early employee. What do you think?
Here’s what I’m envisioning:
I’m inclined to focus on creating a highly integrated solution for a small market segment that larger players typically overlook. These markets often depend on multiple poorly integrated free and paid products to manage their business processes. For example, they might use separate tools for scheduling (e.g., Calendly), invoicing (e.g., Wave), inventory management, communication, etc. You get the idea.
Potential industries could include sole or small plumbing companies, pool maintenance, home cleaning, appliance maintenance, HOA management, and similar fields. The goal would be to develop an end-to-end vertical solution tailored to their specific needs, allowing them to efficiently manage their business, possibly even including basic accounting features, all at a super affordable monthly subscription. Think something in the $20 to $100 per month range, with the potential to generate $200K to $1M MRR.
I’ll handle all the tech-related tasks. With over 25 years of experience in software development, I’m equipped to manage all aspects of web app development and have ready solutions for many common problems, eliminating the need for additional team members initially. I’m also open to making investments if necessary.
Your role would be to manage all non-tech aspects, including marketing, customer acquisition, product management, and ideally securing some early sign-ups to validate the product idea. Given that we’re starting from scratch, having an understanding of UX and experience with tools like Figma would be a huge plus.
I’m looking for someone who’s a doer—someone who can lead market research, set up a landing page or blog, generate leads, and establish relationships with potential customers before we start building the MVP. I’ll provide technical and other assistance as needed.
Due to the market-specific nature of this project, you must be based in the US, preferably in California, and ideally in LA, to facilitate in-person meetings. I believe these can be more productive than weeks of virtual communication.
I’ve covered the essential points, but I’m open to discussing any additional questions you may have. Feel free to DM me for more specific inquiries.
Thanks for reading this long post.
