What is the actual amount of time that you guys spend producing content?

I’m curious about how much time you all spend on content creation.

Some questions I’m wondering about:

  1. How many hours per week do you spend creating content?
  2. What takes up most of your time? (Ideation, writing, editing, etc.)
  3. Do you batch create content or do it daily?
  4. Any tools or hacks you use to speed up the process?
I’ve been working on a tool to help streamline content creation (especially for LinkedIn), but I want to make sure I’m not solving a problem that doesn’t exist. If anyone’s interested in checking it out and giving some brutal feedback, just let me know in the comments.
So yeah, hit me with your content creation routines. Will help me guide the product development. I want to make this specifically for solopreneurs, founders, software engineers, etc., ppl with lots of ideas but not the time to post about.

Fantastic concept. I do find it to be painful. With a small team, I find it challenging to produce content in addition to attempting to concentrate on user research and product development. Content creation thus takes a backseat. Any instrument that facilitates the production of relevant content is ideal. Content that is solely produced by AI doesn’t really appeal to me. Ideally, I would like to write down some ideas and then use a tool to assist me solidify them. I would be willing to consider using the tool if it expedites this procedure. Once more, it must offer far more than what ChatGPT can offer with a helpful prompt.

I felt precisely the same way about creating stuff. The workflow that we have currently in-app:

What is the content theme? Basically, your writing audience and the topics you cover. The content will be more “human” the more specific you are here.

Think of concepts depending on the theme of the text. You may think the suggestions are good or bad.
Then generate a post based on the ideas that you liked. You can edit the posts to your liking.
This drastically cut down content creation time for me personally. I’m thinking of making the edits mandatory but no good way of doing so – I don’t want ppl to just copy paste.
Would you be up for trying it out?

Do you group them together? I make an effort to just record and release without overanalyzing.

To be honest, I really struggled with that with my first SaaS. My motivation was my constant companion, especially when I started getting followers on social media, but it didn’t really help. I haven’t used LinkedIn much, but I plan to do so in the near future.

In the end, I made my own software to handle all of my social media accounts for all of my SaaS

I always find content creation quite challenging. Right now, I only have a presence on X (Twitter), which limits my posting options. To stay consistent, I use a simple checklist in my Notes app. My routine is straightforward yet effective: I aim to post at least twice a day and engage with others by replying to at least 20 tweets daily.
As I complete these tasks, I’ve noticed they help maintain a steady level of interaction and activity. Even though my method is simple, it keeps me organized and ensures I remain visible to my audience.
To make content creation easier, I’m developing a new platform called postpenguin.com to assist with the process.

We create videos, so that aspect can be handled in our spare time.

What has been beneficial for us is hiring someone to post content across various platforms and manage our company page, including liking and commenting on relevant posts. LinkedIn is our primary networking tool.

Before this, we spent about two hours a day creating text and posting on different channels, which has now become much more efficient.

The time-consuming part is the ongoing promotion and visibility on LinkedIn. We’ve shifted to offering this as a service because once clients see the effort involved in managing their company pages, they often ask us to handle the posting and engagement alongside content creation.
Our process involves identifying a pre-existing video or a client’s video we want to share, using ChatGPT to outline the post, adding our input, and then posting it on each channel. Without the video ready, creating content through tools like Canva would likely take twice as long.
We’ve seen auto-creation apps, but we haven’t tried any recently as they tend to be too generic for our needs.

How many hours do you dedicate to content creation each week?

I spend about 10 to 30 hours, which includes filming and writing, among other tasks. You can check out the results here and here. Right now, I’m fully focused on getting the marketing efforts underway.

What takes up the majority of your time? (Ideation, writing, editing, etc.)

Writing takes up the most time. It’s challenging to come up with compelling hooks that aren’t overly cringeworthy or clickbaity while still capturing attention.
Do you create content in batches or on a daily basis?
I do both. I create short-form content daily and batch-create long-form content.
Are there any tools or hacks you use to speed up the process?
ChatGPT can sometimes assist with ideation, but it often feels too generic, and you can easily tell if it generated the content. Additionally, ChatGPT frequently makes factual mistakes, so human input is always necessary.
