I just launched a site (www.redditdelete.com) that deletes your Reddit comments by clicking a button, similar to Redact.dev. Redact charges $8/month for the same capability (but they also bundle features for other social media platforms too!) The upside is it doesn’t require you to download an app, the downside is it doesn’t include platforms other than Reddit.
Curious what people think of this approach / business idea?
I believe Reddit Nuke, or something similar, is a free plugin that accomplishes this. However, if the time commitment is little for you, this strategy isn’t too bad overall. If WalMart had said that supermarkets already existed, then there would have been no use in bothering.
I seem to recall attempting a few free extensions and TamperMonkey scripts, but I was unable to locate one that was functional. The next best thing is most likely a FOSS solution from Github, but installing and configuring one is difficult.
I don’t think this service justifies a subscription model. Personally, I don’t see a need to regularly delete my comment history, so I’d prefer to pay a one-time fee when necessary.
In terms of competition, there are free options like Eredditator and Power Delete, although they may require more technical skills than your service. I also came across Shreddit, which offers lifetime access for $5 and has a nicer-looking website (even if it is still somewhat generic). For $20, it allows scheduling jobs and filtering subreddits.
I believe the reason Redact can charge a monthly fee is that it operates across multiple platforms. For those who need that capability, it makes sense, but it’s less applicable for just Reddit.
For your business idea, I think you should clarify what benefits it offers users. Expanding into Reddit power tools could be one avenue, while broadening to additional platforms could be another.
As general feedback, if you want to succeed, your site needs to appear more trustworthy and polished, rather than just basic. Additionally, your SEO needs to be strong, and you should clearly articulate why your service is worth more than some of the existing competition.
Nice, I had no idea Shreddit existed! Regarding the boilerplate, I agree; I’m working on improving my front-end design. It seems logical to charge for deletions, and even though it isn’t lifetime access, offering a very cheap amount each deletion might have marketing advantages.
You can expand on this concept by excluding comments and articles that only
possess bad luck or
deleted by automods or smth, but you can’t see it from your profile
Marketers would likely find it appealing since it maintains a positive public perception of the brand.
For this service, there are not enough wealthy redditors.
A service is not necessarily well-liked just because it is offered.
