Our SaaS company is looking to migrate our site from WordPress to Laravel due to increased traffic that’s causing performance issues such as bugs and slow page speeds. Our developers in Bangladesh have quoted $8,000 for the migration, which includes rebuilding the code from scratch.
We average around 40 customers per day, generating low-ticket documents/PDFs through mpdf for entrepreneurs (such as contracts), and we plan to boost our marketing soon, which may further increase traffic.
Our homepage will remain on WordPress, while our document generation tools will be moved to Laravel. Since we don’t use APIs, the software will need to be completely rebuilt.
We’re new to this type of migration and want to ensure that $8,000 is a fair price for this work. Should we expect a different price range for migrating a SaaS site focused on document generation, or is this amount reasonable? Any advice or insights would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!
EDIT: The developers estimate that the project will take about 12 weeks to complete, totaling 300-400 hours.
For a total project overhaul, $8,000 is reasonable if you like and trust your developers.
Is there anyone you could find to perform it for less money? Naturally. However, you could never be sure if they would produce a high-quality item.
Nobody can provide you with a precise estimate without fully understanding the product, including the use case in question and all of its potential uses, therefore you should be wary of the opinions expressed here.
As an experienced PHP developer, I can assure you that improving your current solution rather than starting from scratch is a better use of your money. Why create the solution again and take a chance on not being able to release new features and iterate for another 12 (or more) weeks, just to wind up where you are now, when you’ve already invested once in it? Although rewriting has its purpose, it would appear more cost-effective to invest on performance optimising the WordPress application.
Rewriting a project is, I assure you, the best way to kill it.
Your website is hosted where? We switched our 34-site WooCommerce multisite instance from WPEngine to Kinsta, which resulted in a MASSIVE performance boost and significant cost savings.
The only advantage, in my opinion, of switching from WordPress to Laravel is vendor lockin for Bangladeshi devs.
Invest your money on a WordPress developer for a day and WordPress Rocket. Next, employ a server administrator to examine your hosting and server and resolve any problems or updates. So, my advise would be to take some time off and concentrate on the expansion of your core business. A well-designed WordPress website is significantly easier for non-techies to add material to and can withstand high traffic volumes.
Does your software operate on the WordPress website itself?
Without specifics, it’s difficult to estimate, so just figure out how many hours it would take.
Additionally, if this is your first time purchasing services, figure out how to have a third party manage transactions and other things.
Since you would have received a breakdown for the estimated 12 weeks, I don’t think it’s expensive. By delving deeper, you may verify a few key functionality estimates. Simply follow them if you have faith in them.
It will help if you can provide the link, but in general, I believe it is a little pricey if it is expected to take 300 hours to finish. But, switching to Laravel is highly advised. WordPress works well as a content management system (CMS), but not as a scalable software as a cloud solution. Regards
